I’m fascinated by how people make sense of themselves, their relationships and the experiences that have shaped them. I believe that when curiosity is offered with compassion, rather than judgement, it becomes possible to see ourselves differently.

I’m Jonathan Sheriff, an integrative psychotherapist based in Lancashire. My work is grounded in thoughtful, collaborative therapy that helps people move beyond insight towards meaningful change. I have completed my postgraduate training in integrative psychotherapy and am currently awaiting formal ratification of my qualification.

I do not believe there is one way of understanding every person, or one therapeutic model that suits everyone. Instead, I draw on humanistic, psychodynamic, existential and Gestalt perspectives, adapting the work to the person in front of me.

I am particularly interested in the gap between insight and change. You may understand where your patterns come from, recognise what happens in your relationships, or know why you respond as you do, yet still feel unable to live differently. Therapy can offer a space to explore those patterns more deeply, including how they are experienced emotionally and within relationships, rather than only understanding them intellectually.

My own experience of neurodivergence has strengthened my appreciation that there is no single “normal” way to think, feel or experience the world. It continues to shape my commitment to meeting each person with curiosity rather than assumptions, and adapting therapy to the individual rather than expecting people to fit a predetermined model.

Before training as a psychotherapist I worked in community wellbeing and social prescribing and volunteered with Samaritans. Those experiences reinforced my belief that people deserve to be heard, understood and taken seriously, and continue to influence the way I work today.

I offer in-person psychotherapy in Rossendale, Lancashire. If you’re considering therapy, I’d be pleased to meet you for an initial conversation to explore whether working together feels right for you. My aim is to provide a relationship in which you do not need to perform, explain yourself perfectly or arrive with everything already worked out.
